Film Club Noticeboard

Updated: 21/03/2023
After a 2-week hiatus in the regular film club screenings, we are returning tomorrow night, at the usual time of 8pm. The film screening is:

Cinema of Unease: A Personal Journey by Sam Neill (1995)

For those that have not been present at recent screenings, our current field of exploration is the cinema of Aotearoa - cinematic films that are made by, are about and for, the people that call these islands home.

Given the wee break we've had, and the introduction of the email list, it seems like a good time to reset our focus, and meanwhile reflect on some of our experiences thus far.

Cinema of Unease
is a documentary about the history of New Zealand cinema, presented by Sam Neil, in which he draws upon his personal experience in order to create narratives about our cinema and national identity. Above these proposed narratives just being of general interest, we may be able to compare them to some of the narratives we have discussed after previous screenings, and/or use them as reference points (or theses) in our interpretation of future screenings, as we dive further down the NZ film rabbit hole.

Running time: 52 minutes
Content warnings: None from memory (except that it is narrated from privilege)
Notable credits: Cinematography by Alun Bollinger, Soundtrack by Don McGlashan

The film was produced by the British Film Institute as its century of cinema series - which highlights the first 100 years of cinema in various countries.

Hope 2 see u there,

Dylan

P.S Feedback on Yours Film Club is welcomed, and screening suggestions will quite possibly be met with offers to curate.
